Our story:
One of the partners in Salt River Solar and Wind owns a large 10 year old home. With 5 kids at home he realized that one way to improve his bottom line at home was to reduce his significant energy costs. Everyone suggested that solar energy was his answer. He was curious what it would take to make him energy independent.

Three companies gave him prices. The lowest bid for energy independence was $127,000. His house appraised at $385,000 and it made no sense in a down market to add another $127,000 to his home. He is a general contractor and began a comprehensive analysis of the energy short falls of his home.

His analysis of his home demonstrated to him that he could make changes that made financial sense. He installed a radiant barrier, a solar roof vent, new Energy Star windows, programmable thermostats, Energy Star water heater with a blanket and timer, an energy save device to his power box, and installed a 3kW solar system to his roof. All of this cost him, after rebates and incentives, under $25,000. He had all the work done by others and not by himself personally. He reduced his electric bill by 65%. After his home was reappraised he netted a $9,000 gain on his investment. He significantly reduced his carbon footprint and raised the quality of his families life.
